What is a Lake District?
A community-driven team focused on preserving the health of our lakes. Across Wisconsin, over 200 districts, including the North & South Twin Lakes, bring together residents and property owners to protect these natural resources. It’s all about neighbors working together to keep our lakes thriving for everyone.
A lake district is a local unit of government with powers and governance provisions and is guided and operated by those who live in or own property in the district. The operation is directed by a board of commissioners composed of elected volunteers and appointed local officials.

Both resident and non-resident property owners have the right to vote and hold office in a lake district. A lake district must follow Chapter 33 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. The purpose of the District, as expressed in Chapter 33, is to undertake a program of lake protection and rehabilitation.
